For anyone doing last-minute Christmas shopping, your local theatre company, Barnstorm, has the perfect present for children and families, as tickets go on sale today (Wednesday) for their new world-premiere: Barney Carey Gets His Wings.

The play takes place in the Watergate Theatre from February 21st to 24th, with the family show is on Saturday, February 24th and school performances are from Wednesday to Friday (tickets for school shows go on sale on January 10th).

The play tells the story of Barney and his dad who, while rooting through an old trunk, find more than they bargained for and a few things that set them wondering: who makes the rules? What happens if you break the rules? And who is the lady with the beard?

Artistic Director, Philip Hardy, tells us: “This is another exciting project for us! Over the past few years we have engaged new artists to create innovative theatre for young audiences and this is no exception. Both writer Brendan Murray and director Martin Drury have a wealth of experience and knowledge of Theatre for Young Audiences – this will be one to remember!”

So, grab your tickets and next February join Barney, his dad, and the lady with the beard, as they spread their wings in this comic tale of forgotten memories and future possibilities.

The theatre company is also celebrating the shortlisting of their long-time collaborator, Mike Kenny, by the Writers’ Guild Great Britain’s for the Best Play for Young Audiences, for his hugely successful 2016 Barnstorm play, The Messenger. Fingers crossed for a win on January 15th!
