Barnstorm, through its Participation & Education Program, aims to provide opportunities to people in Kilkenny and the South East in theatre and drama, and their uses within a community context.
Theatre and drama methods offer new ways of looking at a variety of themes. They are flexible tools that can be used to celebrate, explore and question our communities and worlds.
They are used in informal and formal education, personal and social development and of course, in the creation of artistic endeavours. By their very nature, drama and theatre draw people together which make them particularly useful in communities.
Youth Drama Programme
The Youth Drama Programme is made up of three youth theatre groups catering for 10-18 years, and summer camps. There is an intake of new members in each group from September. The youth theatre runs concurrently with the school year.
Adult Theatre Programme
The Adult Theatre Club provides opportunities for adults to explore, train and create theatre within a professional theatre company. Previous ATC groups formed The Barn Owl Players, an amateur theatre company who produce, direct and perform theatre projects with the support of the professional company.
Support Programme
The Support Programme is a flexible strand that offers support to individuals, organisations and communities to realise theatre, arts and drama projects.
Activities in the past have ranged from programmes in schools; community theatre; partnerships with local agencies and artists and providing advice and resources to those who wish to use drama in their own work.
If you are interested in participating in any of the programmes or think we can be of assistance to you or your community please contact our Participation& Education Officer Jo Hennessy at jo@barnstorm.ie or on (056) 7751266.
